About
KANU was born in a small local atelier, where a mother brought her daughter’s designs to life. From the very beginning, we were, and still are, inspired by one fundamental aspect of fashion: its cyclical nature. Our early transparent raincoats for dogs and humans, along with our hats and curated choices of colors and piping, set the foundation for a brand that embraces a personal and individual approach to fashion. Our customers became co-creators of our designs. By combining ready to wear and pre order, we aim to preserve that individuality while contributing to reducing textile waste and protecting the planet, producing pieces only when there is genuine demand. Just as we co-created our first pieces, we believe we will continue to shape KÅNU together, a brand that values intention, longevity, and personal expression, where each piece comes to life through the skilled and nurturing hands of local women artisans.
Meet our founder Anja
My perspective on fashion was formed long before KÅNU became a brand. I grew up in my mother’s production atelier. She is a textile engineer, and many of my afternoons after school were spent there, surrounded by fabrics, patterns, half-finished garments, and the quiet focus that comes with making something carefully. Whenever I asked her to buy me something, her answer was always the same: “We’ll make a better one.” And we usually did. When I started choosing what I wanted to wear, she would take my sketches and turn them into real pieces.
At one point, I wanted a transparent matching raincoat for myself and my dog. We wore them together, and people would stop us on the street. They would smile, ask questions, and react in a way that felt genuine and spontaneous. It was the first time I understood how something personal, when made with intention, can resonate with others. In 2019, after studying psychology and later fashion design, I decided to build something of my own. I founded KÅNU, named after my dachshund, who walked beside me in the very first raincoat we made.
